Climate change is a global issue that can be felt on a local scale. It is one of the most complex issues that humans are facing today. Responding to climate change involves a two- pronged approach:
1. Mitigation: Reducing carbon emissions in the atmosphere. Mitigation means making the impacts of climate change less severe by preventing or reducing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) into the atmosphere.
2. Adaptation: Adapting to climate change. It can be understood as the process of adjusting to the current and future effects of climate change.
In collaboration with the Centre for Climate Change, SAFE has been actively working on this since 2019 in the Delhi NCR region. Climate Chaupals for Spreading the Awareness Climate Chaupals organized by SAFE is a great initiative taken to educate people about climate change in simple and relatable terms. It is basically a step taken to make people aware. It is to educate people about what they can do to mitigate the change.
Climate Chaupal also helps educate farmers about the nature-based solutions that they can adopt to mitigate and adapt to climate change. For example, they can make farm ponds to harvest rainwater and use it for irrigation during the dry months. They can apply new environment-friendly strategies that are low in carbon emissions and sustainable.
